Mitchell factory explodes throughout the night

20110916_wiseman_0010 Last night we were awoken to explosions echoing across northern Canberra.

Turns out a factory caught fire about midnight and a few hours later various liquids inside caught fire resulting in explosions and fireballs being thrown into the night.

My son came sprinting into the room not knowing what was happening, hearing the constant booms echoing out into the quiet night.

It’s now nearly 3pm and the fire fighters are still to put the fires out with toxic smoke streaming across Canberra.

Schools are out as was part of the transport for a few hours due to a 10km exclusion zone (which we were in).
