Hops, glorious hops!

By | October 22, 2013

‘Tis the season to be hoppy – well, it’s the start of it anyhow. This year I’ve moved the hops from out the side to the backyard to try and get some more sunshine and a better environment for them to grow in, and hopefully a better crop than last year. At the same time by dear wife… Read More »

Plumbing it in

By | October 7, 2013

It’s another long weekend here in Canberra and so more work continued with the brewery today – this time the plumbing.

Although I only got in here a few hours today, the plumbing is almost complete with the exception of mounting the pumps, three-way tap and plate chiller.

I decided on two of the 12v little brown pumps – I guess we’ll see how good they are, for $25 each I’m not to fussed if they pack it in and I need to go bigger later on.

Cutting-edge brewery upgrades

By | September 30, 2013

Well, only in the sense I was cutting holes in stainless steel pots. After ordering the parts quite a few months ago and some unfortunate family health issues which obviously took priority, the weather has warmed and I finally got back out into the brew shed. By | June 7, 2013

I finally got around to putting this up here, instead of writing something new I thought I would just put up what I (partially) wrote already for the paper. Originally printed in Army Newspaper – http://digital.realviewtechnologies.com/?iid=76841&startpage=page0000003 It was a fantastic day in the pub on Anzac Day and I feel honoured that Ash’s family supported the beer and it… Read More »

Planned: The all new HERMS brewery

By | November 29, 2012

I’ve been brewing beer at home now since 2007. Starting with a Coopers kit doing kit brews I quickly moved to extract (still cans but using your own hops) and shortly after that I moved into the world of all-grain. My first all-grain brewing system was a one pot Brew in a Bag (BIAB) system which was a… Read More »

Mead Making

By | April 9, 2012

Finally got around to putting a mead on today. Decided to try out the JAO mead which I found on Aussiehomebrewer, I’ve also quoted the article below. I guess we’ll see in a minimum of two months what it’s like.   For a 5 litre demijohn ——————————- 1.6kg honey (never boiled or lose the taste and aromas) (if… Read More »
