‘Tis the season to be hoppy – well, it’s the start of it anyhow. This year I’ve moved the hops from out the side to the backyard to try and get some more sunshine and a better environment for them to grow in, and hopefully a better crop than last year. At the same time by dear wife… Read More »
It’s another long weekend here in Canberra and so more work continued with the brewery today – this time the plumbing.
Although I only got in here a few hours today, the plumbing is almost complete with the exception of mounting the pumps, three-way tap and plate chiller.
I decided on two of the 12v little brown pumps – I guess we’ll see how good they are, for $25 each I’m not to fussed if they pack it in and I need to go bigger later on.
Well, only in the sense I was cutting holes in stainless steel pots. After ordering the parts quite a few months ago and some unfortunate family health issues which obviously took priority, the weather has warmed and I finally got back out into the brew shed. I’ve been brewing beer at home now since 2007. Starting with a Coopers kit doing kit brews I quickly moved to extract (still cans but using your own hops) and shortly after that I moved into the world of all-grain. My first all-grain brewing system was a one pot Brew in a Bag (BIAB) system which was a… Read More »
Post updated June 7, 2013 – see shaded box at end of post. Nine months ago on a Thursday evening at the monthly meeting of the Canberra Brewers I was lucky enough to win in the raffles – a MillMaster MiniMill. Although up until this point I had been (very successfully) using my modified Marga Mill and I… Read More »
Finally got around to putting a mead on today. Decided to try out the JAO mead which I found on Aussiehomebrewer, I’ve also quoted the article below. I guess we’ll see in a minimum of two months what it’s like. For a 5 litre demijohn ——————————- 1.6kg honey (never boiled or lose the taste and aromas) (if… Read More »
